CHRIST University, India
CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. He founded the first Catholic indigenous congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), in 1831 which administers CHRIST (Deemed to be University).
CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was established as ‘Christ College’ in 1969. It undertook path-breaking initiatives in Indian higher education with the introduction of innovative and modern curricula, insistence on academic discipline, imparting of Holistic Education and adoption of global higher education practices with the support of creative and dedicated staff.
The campus is a living example of harmonious multiculturalism with students from all the states and union territories and around 60 different countries. CHRIST (Deemed to be University) publishes six peer-reviewed research journals and has published more than 300 books in Kannada and English. A promoter of sports, music and literary activities, it is a nurturing ground for creative excellence.
As one of the first departments to be founded in CHRIST (Deemed to be University), the School of Psychological Sciences has grown by leaps and bounds, sustained by its commitment towards innovation in curriculum, pedagogy and ground-breaking initiatives. The mission of the School is to promote high academic standards in psychology, by creating an optimal and enriching learning environment, fostering ongoing professional and personal development and contributing effectively to society’s needs.
The School runs a range of programmes including Certificate courses, Undergraduate programmes, Post Graduate programmes and Research degrees in psychology (Ph.D.). Our students demonstrate a high degree of self awareness, are service oriented and are encouraged to embrace humane values in their vocation.
The School realizes its vision to promote high academic standards through a continuous and dynamic curriculum review process based on feedback from peers, professionals, potential employers and students. A variety of student-centred teaching and learning pedagogies are practised by the faculty members. These include seminars, experiential methodologies, laboratory training, conferences, workshops, field-based studies, film-based discussions and interactions with field experts.
The lab is a space dedicated to advancing research on child growth, cognitive development, socio-emotional development, and learning processes. The team at the lab explores how children think, learn, and interact with their environment to gain a deeper understanding of child development and the challenges that accompany it.
The lab features state-of-the-art observation rooms equipped with one-way mirrors, video recording technology for behavioural studies, and a range of age-appropriate toys and learning materials. These facilities enable both structured and naturalistic observation, providing a supportive environment for both participants and researchers to explore the fascinating world of child development.
